10 Before 25

I have officially been 24 years old for one week! One thing about me is I LOVE goals. I love the process of recognizing improvement needs to be made, setting a goal, and then meeting the goal. I also love that birthdays mark a new year with new resolutions to make! I decided I wanted to put together a list of 10 goals I want to meet before my 25th birthday (in no particular order!).

1. I want to officially train my puppy. Little Odin is still having trouble with going potty where and when he’s supposed to, he doesn’t love new people and other animals, and he barks a lot when we’re not home. He’s the smartest puppy ever, we just need to work with him consistently. So I’m going to really focus on training him to be a well behaved dog.
2. Finish turning my house into a home. Since we got married about 8 months ago, hubs and I have had to move twice. We had our first apartment pretty much decorated, but since moving to our current place (with MUCH more wall space), I’ve been dragging my feet. It’s been a huge goal of mine to have our home completely decorated and ready to go before we have a baby, but I’m going to go ahead and say before we have a baby or before my 25th birthday. Whichever comes first! I would also love to finish putting together my home office/craft room!
4. Purge my yarn/weaving stash! When I began weaving, I went to the craft store and picked up every pretty yarn I saw, regardless of the material. Since I’ve become more experienced, I’ve learned the importance of using quality yarn. I want to be more conscious of the materials I use in my weavings in order to create the best pieces possible!
5. This is a big one! I want to become self employed. I would like to focus much more of my time and energy on my calligraphy and weavings. A dream of mine is to earn money doing what I love. This year I will be stepping back from my 8-5 job due to health related reasons, and I plan to use this opportunity to really hone my skills and (fingers crossed!) turn my hobbies into a business.
6. I know weight loss goals are so cliche. But one of my big goals is to start working out daily again. Half of my wardrobe consists of clothes I no longer fit into and I would really love to make use of all the cute clothes I have. I’ll be posting more about my fitness journey, I’m sure!
7. I would like to date my husband more. We’ve been together for almost 5 years now, and we’ve settled into routine. Going out to dinner or a movie once a week or even every other week would be nice! When we were dating, we used to try different restaurants all the time (see #6 weight loss goal heh) and go on the most creative fun dates.
8. This blog is obviously one of my goals for this year! Typically, the idea is to post on the same day each week for consistency, but if I set that goal I’ll be setting myself up for failure, and then I’ll be so discouraged that I’ll never post! So I’m going to make a goal to post 4 times a month. If it works out that I post once a week on the same day, great! If not, at least I’ll have 4 posts up per month!
9. Baby! Super personal but I would LOVE to get pregnant in the next year. I have been baby hungry for years. To have my dream of being a mom become a reality would be so incredible!
10. Vacation. My husband and I have been planning to go on a vacation or a weekend getaway for a while. The timing has never been right, and I would love to go on at least two mini vacations this year!
There you have it! 10 goals I want to meet by the time I turn 25.

To Start With

First post!

My name is Ariana VandeMerwe (ah-ree-ahn-uh  van-deh-meer) and today is my birthday!
About me: I lived in Utah from the time I was born until I was 15 years old. At 15, my family and I moved to Maine. I moved back to Utah (by myself) when I was 19 years old and here I am, still in Utah. My hobbies include weaving, calligraphy, Pinterest-ing, Instagram-ing, Netflix-ing (not words, but they should be), and spending time with my little family.
My husband Blake and I met one month after I moved to Utah (he was my first Tinder date *insert heart eyes emoji*). We used to say we “met through friends” because we didn’t want to admit that we met on a dating app. But now we own it and it’s cute. We dated for 4 years before getting engaged on April 23rd, 2017. We were married on September 9th, 2017 (aka the best day ever). Since being married, we have both started new jobs, we have moved twice, and we have adopted a chipoo puppy named Odin.
I am currently a receptionist, which is honestly the best job I’ve ever had. I have a very strong background in customer service/call centers. Over the course of a few grueling weeks, I realized I couldn’t take the anxiety of my job anymore and thankfully, a receptionist position was open where my husband used to work. My days definitely have stressful moments, but my quality of life has improved tremendously now that I don’t dread waking up every morning.
My dream/end goal is to eventually be a stay at home mom. And if I’m reeaally dreaming, I’ll have a successful Etsy shop where I can make money doing what I love, which is creating things that I find beautiful.
I’ve always been a DIY-er. I love the satisfaction of making something myself, or having a vision to improve or modify something to be more than it was.
I’ve been practicing calligraphy for a few years, and have done work for clients creating prints, invites, and announcements. One of my favorite things about calligraphy is that I never have to buy another greeting card again, I can just make my own!
I’ve recently taken up weaving, and I am OBSESSED. I love everything about weaving, and I’m so proud of everything I create, the good and the bad. I love how you can do this without thinking (for the most part). I can whip out my loom, turn on some Netflix, and get to work. Before I know it, a piece is completed and beautiful (9 times out of 10).
My husband surprised me with a new camera for my birthday, so I’ll probably find a passion in photography as well, which I’m very excited about!!
My goal for this blog is to share photos, record memories, and hopefully, contribute something new to the internet.
